Chair of Trustees – Voluntary position
The AHOY Centre

AHOY is a watersports based charity changing people’s lives and building life skills through sailing and rowing.  Our primary objective is giving opportunities for disadvantaged and at-risk youths and we offer opportunities for disabled people to participate in activities and courses on an equal.

Located on the Thames at Deptford, The AHOY Centre provides so many individuals with such great opportunities.  We have a clear five-year plan that focuses on the building of the solid foundation of the Charity’s achievements since its inception in 2001.  

This is a fantastic opportunity to Chair a Board of six existing Trustees and bring complementary skills to maximise the potential of the Charity.

Watersports & Operations Administrator - Part-time (21 hours per week)

Salary:         £9 to £12 per hour (dependent on skills-set)  

An enthusiastic, friendly and pro-active Administrator with common sense, a good knowledge of Microsoft Office plus excellent communication and organisational skills is required for our energetic and rewarding charity based in Deptford, South London.

Our Watersports & Operations Administrator will coordinate administrative support for our Centre Administrator including data entry, raising Invoices, communication to our fundraising teams. The role also includes assisting with and delivering our events. 

The successful candidate will have at least two years’ experience in a similar role and will be a self-starter, able to work on their own initiative, deliver under pressure and possess excellent verbal and written communication, organisational and Microsoft Office skills.

 Key Duties

  • Manage all administration and communication for our rowing challenges
  • Manage our CRM Calendar to ensure all activities are recorded accurately and on-time
  • Assist with booking and invoice procedures for our centre and equipment hire
  • Assist with Reception duties
  • Assist with and deliver our in-house events

In addition you will have excellent team working skills and the ability to become an articulate and passionate advocate of our cause.

Challenge Fundraisers

Bring your passion for a challenge to The AHOY Centre charity and help us grow our "Oarsome" fundraising challenges and help us ‘Change People’s Lives’

Do you have the passion and flair to inspire others? Do you want to help a small and ambitious Watersports based Charity grow and at the same time see how you are helping others? If so, we are looking for a 5th Fundraiser to join our friendly team!

The AHOY Centre's Oarsome Rowing Challenges are delivered by the Charity to raise vital funds.

Working across the spectrum of sales, marketing, communication and event management and administration, you will be enthusiastic and able to inspire people to support our charity by taking up a rowing challenge.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • A natural communicator and 'people' person, finding it easy to talk to people in person, on the phone and by email. You will be interested in finding out what makes people tick and developing long-lasting relationships with our challenge teams and supporters to create a strong return on fundraising.
  • Have a proven track record in sales and/or fundraising and will use your experience in other areas of your life to network and develop contacts within other sectors such as the corporate world.
  • Be flexible with their working hours as we are a seven day operation and evening and weekend work is part of the role.
  • Be competent in using Microsoft Word, Excel and updating/recording information.

This role is suited to someone who wants to develop their skills and experience at the heart of fundraising and events management. Working within a small friendly team from our base in Deptford, you'll have opportunities to get out on the water too!

Freelance Boat Building Tutor/Assessor

Salary £26 – £34,000 pro-rata (depending on experience and skill sets)

Hours: Mimimum of two days per week

A Freelance vacancy for an enthusiastic and pro-active Boat Building Tutor/Assessor is required for our energetic and rewarding charity based in Deptford, South London.

The BBTA will work alongside our Watersports & Training Manager to deliver our diverse Boat Building Apprentice Programme and to maintain the charity’s fleet of boats. The BBTA will be pro-active, self-motivated and able to make decisions.

The successful candidate will be qualified in City & Guilds 2451 Boatbuilding Level 3, PTLLS or Level 3 in Education and Training Tutors and hold Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the work Environment. They will also have proven ability to work on their own initiative and deliver under pressure plus possess excellent verbal and written communication, organisational and Microsoft Office skills. Experience of working with volunteers and knowledge of fleet maintenance would be an advantage.

In addition you will have excellent team working skills and the ability to become an articulate and passionate advocate of our cause.

Freelance Rowing Coaches

The AHOY centre is looking for qualified rowing instructors to help us deliver our exciting and expanding rowing programme - teaching groups of children and adults to row in Thames Waterman Cutters and in our new rowing gym.
